Australians saw the launching of two new brand Nokia smartphones last year namely the Nokia 2.1 and Nokia 5.1. Since HMD Global acquired Nokia, there is steady rise in Nokia Android mobile offering some of the best features in an affordable budget. Both these phones continue the close partnership between Nokia and Google with the 2.1 being an Android Go device and the 5.1 an Android One device which is pure Google Android that will get regular updates in version and other features.

The Nokia 2.1

The Nokia 5.1

This stylish new phone comes  with three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates, making it one of the most secure phones on the market. Other Google services include Google Assistant, Google Photos (unlimited storage) and Google Lens

Talking of the display the Nokia 5.1 comes with a higher resolution 5.5 inch Full HD+ (1080×2160 pixels) IPS LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection which is perfect for any gamer to enjoy games.

As for the OS, the Nokia 5.1 runs Android Oreo, based on Android One, out-of-the-box.The smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT6755S SoC, which comes paired with 3GB of RAM.

In the camera front, this Nokia phone gets a single 16-megapixel rear sensor with PDAF and an LED flash. As for the selfie camera, the phone has an 8-megapixel fixed focus lens. There is a 3000mAh battery under the hood. Inbuilt storage on the Nokia 5.1 is capped at 32GB, although expandable via microSD card  of up to 128GB.

Other new Nokia Phones

In a news it was reported that Nokia 5.1 Plus and  Nokia X5 has not been launched anywhere outside of China. The five variants of the phone have been listed and launch date for its global announcement has not been revealed

Nokia 5.1 Plus, expected to be the global variant of the Nokia X5, comes in five variants on a Bluetooth certification website confirming rumours that it will be launched in numerous countries outside of China soon. To recall, the Nokia X5 was launched in China in July 2018 months after the Nokia X6 came to the Chinese market. However, the Nokia X6’s global variant – Nokia 6.1 Plus – has already been announced, while the Nokia 5.1 Plus is yet to become a reality.

As per a report by NokiaPowerUser, five new models of what is seemingly the Nokia 5.1 Plus have been spotted on a Bluetooth certification portal. These include TA-1108, TA-1105, TA-1120, TA-1112, and TA-1102. Much like the Nokia 6.1 Plus, and all other Nokia smartphones released globally this year, the Nokia 5.1 Plus is expected to be a part of Google’s Android One programme.

Internals of the Nokia 5.1 Plus are expected to match those of the Nokia X5. The Nokia X5/ 5.1 Plus sports a 5.86-inch HD+ (720×1520 pixels) panel with a 2.5D curved glass and a 19:9 aspect ratio. At its core, the smartphone will get an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 SoC, coupled with 3GB/ 4GB of RAM and 32GB/ 64GB of inbuilt storage.

Speaking of camera, Nokia 5.1 Plus will feature a dual rear camera setup with a 13-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary lens, coupled with LED flash. On the front, the Nokia handset will sport an 8-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and an 80-degree angle of view. There will be a 3,060mAh battery under the hood. It is expected to arrive with a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth v4.2, and Dual 4G Dual VoLTE.

Yet no launch date has yet been provided for Australian market. The Nokia 6.1 Plus at the time of writing has been launched only in Hong Kong.
